GOT THE SCOOP: We have trouble keeping up with the new flavors at Foodie favorite Herrell’s Ice Cream (46L Gerard St, Huntington village 631-673-1100). It seems every time we visit, there’s something different up on the board. Not to worry, though. Anytime we feel like it we walk in and ask, “what’s the scoop?” That produces, if not a scoop, a wooden stick-ful of the newest flavors. Last week, they were excited to hand over a sample of Carrot Cake Batter – thick and rich and slightly spicy; Key Lime Cardamom – cool, green and with a surprising cardamom kick; and Twinkie – super sweet and slightly spongy, just like its namesake. Our favorite though, is Almond Joy, which owner Rick Meuser keeps stashed in the back. It’s not on the board, but if you ask nicely he’ll sell you a scoop. Tell him the Foodies sent you.

ALOHA: Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce’s funnest event of the year (and really, aren’t they all?) is coming up. Their annual Luau at Crab Meadow Beach, Northport, will be held on Thursday, July 16 beginning at 6 p.m. A ticket ($85 members, $95 non-members) includes a fabulous buffet courtesy of Outback Steakhouse, dancing to the reggae beat of “Jayobe” and a spectacular sunset. Call the Chamber at 631-423-6100 for more information or to go to www.huntingtonchamber.com to reserve your place.

MAC’S BEST BUY: The “Sunset Grille Menu” at Mac’s Steak House (12 Gerard St., Huntington village 631-549-5300 www.macssteakhouse.com) could be one of the best summer dining buys in town. Served on the patio Thursdays and Fridays, the menu offers affordable appetizers and entrees between 3 and 6 p.m., including raw clams ($1) and oysters ($1.50); a skewer of BBQ Shrimp ($6) and Grilled Lemon Pepper Calamari ($6) appetizers. Entrees include, but are not limited to, Tuna Steak ($14), Marinated Sirloin ($15), Half-Rack of BBQ Ribs ($14) and Grilled Lobster Tail ($18).

COFFEE HOUSE: Did you know that Classy Coffee (20 Clinton Ave., Huntington village 631-421-5745 www. classycoffee.com) offers live music Friday and Saturday nights? A $2 per person donation fully supports the artists. Enjoy gourmet coffees, an international selection of desserts and ice cream, and even a selection of specialty coffee drinks from the “Classy Bar,” all while immersing yourself in the music of local artists. Hey, it worked for Bob Dylan… right?

FREE FRIES: Huntington-born American Roadside (80 Main St., Smithtown 631-382-9500 www.roadsideburger.com) is easily the Foodies’ fast food favorite. Between now and the end of July, you can get free French fries with the purchase of any burger… just go to the website, print the online coupon and present it when you order.
