NEWEST DISH: On March 24, Jenn and Steve DelLima
celebrated their sweetest dish, the birth of their daughter
Hayley Grace weighing in at 8 pounds, 4 ounces. Proud Papa
Steve is Executive Chef at Black and Blue Seafood & Chophouse
(65 Wall St., Huntington 631-385-9255). Congratulations!
NO DISH ON DISH: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
perhaps the worlds most visible couple are managing
to remain invisible. The couple is reportedly staying in Centre
Island while work gets done on their rented Lloyd Harbor digs,
and rumor has it that pizza is a favorite Pitt stop. Thereve
been unconfirmed sightings at both DeRaimos
and Rosas pizzerias in Huntington, though its
funny that for a couple with a pack of paparazzi trained on
their tails full-time, no photos have popped up.
THAT 70s MENU: One of the Foodies favorite restaurant
promotions is Billy Hoests way of celebrating anniversaries
at his Huntington pub, Canterbury Ales (314 New York Ave.,
Huntington 631-549-4404 www.canterburyales.com). To mark his
32nd anniversary, Billy is bringing diners back to the 70s
and 80s. Lunches (Mon-Thurs, 11:30 a.m.- 4 p.m.) will
be at 1970s prices while dinners (Mon-Thur, 4 p.m.-11 p.m.)
will reprise the 1980s prices. Just so youre not surprised,
heres how it works. Because todays menu is more
extensive than it was all those decades ago, the full menu
will be available but only the original menu items will be
at the original prices. The bottom line a Canterburger
going for $9.99 these days will set you back a big $3.99.
So break out those bell bottoms, fluff up that big hair and
get yourself to Canterbury Ales. Tell Billy the Foodies sent
you.
Thin Mints On The Menu: Everyone gets excited during
Girl Scout Cookie season, and we know were guilty of
bulk-buying the Thin Mints and Samoas. Our pantries, however,
may not be the only place to find those heavenly sweets. We
hear some local restaurants including Piccola Bussola
(970 W Jericho Tpke., Huntington 631-692-6300) and City Cellar
Wine Bar and Grill (1080 Corporate Dr., Westbury 516-693-5400)
plan to use Girl Scout Cookies in some of their desserts.
For a complete listing of all participating restaurants, visit
the Girl Scouts of Nassau County website at www.gsnc.org.
Restaurant owners interested in participating in the Girl
Scout Cookie dessert program can contact Fran McAllister at
mcallisterf@gsnc.org or call 516-741-2550 ext. 249.
EAST MEETS MAINE: Keep an eye on the specials board
at 34 New Street (34 New St., Huntington village 631- 427-3434).
This weeks specials includes a Maine Lobster Roll ($7).
This house made eggroll is stuffed with sweet Maine lobster
meat, shitake mushrooms, green onions, rice noodles, fish
sauce and lime, deep fried and served with orange-ginger dipping
sauce.
HARD-BOILED SUCCESS: With Easter just ahead, you may
want to try this method for hard-boiling eggs without producing
that grey-green ring around the outside of the cooked yolk.
That less-than-appetizing color is created when iron and sulfur
chemically combine as a result of cooking, producing ferrous
sulfide. To hard boil eggs with a sunny center, put the eggs
in a pan of cold water in a single layer, bring water to a
rolling boil, turn down to a slow simmer and cook for two
minutes more. Remove from heat, cover the pan and let stand
for 11 minutes. Transfer eggs to cold water and let them soak
until cooled.
