HAPPY HOUR: Every hour seems to be happy hour at
Herrells Ice Cream (46 Gerard Street, Huntington village,
631-673-1100) where owner Rick Meuser and his crew keep dreaming
up new and exciting flavors of premium ice cream. For a follow-up
to the Baileys Irish Cream flavor that sold like mad
around St. Patricks Day, Herrells has come up
with an ice cream version of the White Russian thats
every bit as rich as the bar drink. Instead of alcohol, this
version has white chocolate chips, which to us Foodies is
just fine. Drop by for a scoop.
Easter at Macs: Macs Steakhouse of
Huntington (12 Gerard Street, Huntington village, 631-549-5300)
is serving up a buffet brunch for Easter Sunday, 11 a.m. to
2:30 p.m. The Menu includes unlimited Bloody Marys, Mimosas
and Macs signature champagne punch; scrambled eggs,
French toast, assorted salads, mini bagels, muffins, croissants,
Danish smoked salmon, bacon, sausage, cold cuts, sushi, fresh
fruit salad and more. In addition, dinner from the a la carte
menu will be served all day and include Chilean Sea Bass,
Trio of Lamb and the Chefs rendition of the classic
Beef Wellington.
Peeps Brule: The best part about Easter is the appearance
of Marshmallow Peeps on store shelves. If you are a gourmand
who happens to own a torch for making crème brulee,
take one to the sugary coating of a Marshmallow Peep for a
delicious if somewhat sinister treat. Just remember
to let them cool a bit before biting through the crispy burnt
sugar crust to enjoy the warm marshmallowy inside.
HES BAAAACK: One of Long Islands top chefs,
Guy Reuges is back at the burners after closing to relocate
from his landmark St. James restaurant Mirabelle. Reuges,
who was awarded the prestigious La Toque dArgent and
named Chef of the Year by the Maitres Cuisiniers de France
in 2006, has opened Mirabelle Tavern (150 Main Street, Stony
Brook 631-751-0555), bringing to the table freshest local
ingredients with an emphasis on value. Prices from $7
to $13 for small plates, $15 to $18 for trilogy plates, $12
to $29 for classic plates, and $8.50 for desserts. Small
plate offerings include: organic egg cocotte; homemade garlic
sausage; and braised pork belly. Trilogy plates, where
good things come in three, features: Kobe beef
sliders with kosher sea salt brioche buns; mini crab cakes;
and grilled lamb chops. Classic Plates include: chicken pot
pie; grilled black Angus shell steak; and steak frites with
sliced Chateau steak. Desserts include profiteroles
and ginger almond tart. Reuges and his wife, Maria, look forward
to reopening Mirabélle at the Three Village Inn site
later this spring.
