Canterbury Ales celebrates their 29th Anniversary this month
by bring back the 1970s and Geoffrey Chaucer never had it
so good or so inexpensive. Billy Hoest’s popular pub,
one block north of Main Street on New York Avenue, offers
a Monday, Wednesday and Friday lunch menu with prices from
the 1970s. Served from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., the lunch special
salads are huge and cost a mere pittance ($4.25 - $4.95).
The varied and interesting English style offerings include
English Brown Stew ($4.75), Steak and Kidney Pie ($5.95),
Prime Rib Sandwich ($5.95), The Bookmaker – sliced steak
sandwich ($4.95), Shepherds Pie ($6.75) and the Canterburger

IN GOOD TASTE: A series
of food and wine fundraising events will highlight New York
Institute of Technology’s celebration of its 50th anniversary.
Of great interest to local foodies is “In Good Taste”
held at NYIT’s historic de Seversky Center on Wednesday,
April 26, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Attendees will enjoy an eclectic
array of culinary delights and wines from more than 50 of
the best local, national and international restaurants and
wineries. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet
Mireille Guiliano, president of Clicquot, Inc. and author
of the best-selling book, French Women Don’t Get Fat,
and Geoffrey Zakarian, chef and author of the new cookbook,
Town/Country: 150 Recipes for Life Around the Table. General
admission tickets are $80; VIP tickets are $150, which includes
a reception with both authors and valet parking. NYIT’s
de Seversky Center is located on Northern Blvd. in Old Westbury,
NY.
