Woman Hurts Self Falling
Village police rushed to a Northport home on Aug. 25 after a resident injured herself in a fall. The Northport Fire Department took her to Huntington Hospital.


Hey You Kids, Get Off My Roof!
Northport police received a report of youths making graffiti on the roof of a Main Street building on Aug. 24. The responding officer removed the four juveniles, but was unable to determine if the graffiti was new. No further police action was necessary.


When Families Turn Violent
Village police were called to a Northport home about a domestic incident just before midnight on Aug. 24. Police determined the argument came after a mother told her daughter she could not drive the car. The incident escalated when the daughter bit her mother’s hand after her mom scratched the daughter’s arm

Crack Pipe Found In Larceny
Northport police received two calls about vehicle break-ins within 21 minutes of each other on Aug. 21. The first happened along Lady Janes Way when the complainant said someone entered the 2010 BMW and stole an iPod, pair of sunglasses and personal papers all valued at $600. Another case came in on Soper Avenue. The second complainant said someone entered his Chevrolet Blazer sometime between 7:30 p.m. and 9:40 a.m. A case of flooring tiles was missing, as was his GPS. The complainant admitted to leaving the vehicle unlocked, but said he found a glass stem on his dashboard and believed his vehicle was driven and returned. Police determined the stem had been used as a crack pipe.

Maybe She Didn’t Capture Her Good Side
A Northport merchant called Village police about a woman acting suspiciously in their store on Aug. 21. The complainant said the suspect entered the store the evening before and identified herself as working for “an AOL search engine” and wanted to take pictures. The merchant said she was busy and could not participate. At this point, police said the suspect became nasty and started taking pictures anyway, despite orders to stop from the merchant. The subject left without further incident; a report was filed for informational purposes.

$700 In Bikes Go Missing
Three bicycles were reported stolen to Village police on Aug. 19. The complainants said they were taken from Northport Library and worth $700.

How Does A Car Disappear?
A South Huntington man called Suffolk County police to report a stolen car on Aug. 27. The complainant said an unknown person stole a 2007 Honda Accord. Police are still investigating.


More Car Parts Stolen
Suffolk police were called to a railroad station parking lot on Aug. 27 about a petit larceny. The complainant said someone stole the catalytic converter from their parked vehicle.


Bad Look For Mustang
Suffolk police were called to a Melville home on Aug. 26 after a sports car was damaged. The complainant said an unknown person smashed the passenger side of a 2002 Ford Mustang.


What Happened In The Meantime?
Suffolk police were alerted on Aug. 26 about a vehicle theft that occurred earlier this month. The complainant said her 1998 Nissan Altima was stolen from the Long Island Expressway in Dix Hills between Aug. 1 and Aug. 3.


Burglar Enters Home Through Window
Suffolk police were called to a Dix Hills home about a burglary on Aug. 25. The complainant said unknown people entered the house through a skylight window before taking an iPod and jewelry. Nobody was home at the time.


Burglar Returns Stolen Golf Cart
A local YMCA called Suffolk County police about a burglarized piece of equipment on Aug. 25. The golf cart had been taken from the Huntington property. It was later found a few blocks away.


Attack Leaves Man In Stitches
A Melville man called Suffolk County police on Aug. 24 after being assaulted. He told police they beat him up; he was taken to Plainview Hospital and had his wounds stitched up.


Why Steal An Audio Cable?
A Northport man was arrested by Village police in connection a burglary on Aug. 21. An officer responding to a possible burglary in progress noticed the defendant walking nearby. When he approached him, the defendant appeared to be nervous and reached towards his pockets. A subsequent search of the defendant revealed he had a bottle of prescription pills not prescribed to him and an audio cable. The defendant admitted to breaking into a vehicle and taking both items. He was arrested for petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, both misdemeanors.
