He told police an automated service called his cell phone to tell him his Visa debit card was suspended for recent charges, and that he needs to call back with his Social Security Number and personal information. His wife received the same call on her cell phone. He believes this is a scam, as he does not have a Visa debit card. Those Dogs Are Going Crazy A dog sitter in Greenlawn called Suffolk County police just after midnight on Feb. 28 about a disturbance. She told police she heard male voices outside and the dogs began to go crazy at something outside. The responding officer searched the area, but found nothing. Woman Undergoing Heroin Withdrawal Suffolk police rushed to a Greenlawn home when a resident was suffering from heroin withdrawal before dawn on Feb. 28. The Greenlawn Fire Department took the 26-year-old woman to Huntington Hospital. The complainant said he was told, we are going to battle tomorrow at 9 a.m. and I hope you win. He wanted to document the incident. She told police she has a medical condition that needed to be tested. Police advised her its not a police function, but would arrange for an ambulance if it was an emergency. The complainant declined and said she would go later. Man Cuts His Hand Suffolk police rushed to a Melville business on Feb. 28 when a Bethpage man cut his hand in an accident. The Melville Fire Department took him to North Shore Plainview Hospital. $4,000 Loan Goes Missing A Lake Terrace man contacted Suffolk County police after his loan was abruptly cancelled on Feb. 27 at a Huntington Station garage. He told police a man representing himself as a liaison to a bank helped him secure a $4,000 loan for a deposit on a 2003 Mercedes. He returned the next day to pick up the car when he learned the loan was cancelled and the man was gone with his money. Police advised him to take up the matter civilly. The complainant later located the subject, and further negotiations are expected. All Black? Oh No! A Melville man called Suffolk County police about a suspicious person on his property just before midnight on Feb. 27. He told police an unknown man dressed all in black was on his front lawn before running down the block. The subject was gone when police arrived, and could not be found in a search of the area.Elderly Woman Falls Northport police rushed to a Village home on Feb. 24 when an elderly woman fell and injured herself. The Northport Fire Department took the 79-year-old to Huntington Hospital. Time To Move On A Northport woman called Village police on Feb. 20 to complain about her ex-boyfriend harassing her. She told police the West Islip man kept calling and leaving messages on her home phone since they broke up in January. She said they are alarming and annoying to her. Police advised her of her options, although she refused to prosecute. Mailbox Takes A Beating A Northport woman called Village police after her mailbox was damaged on Feb. 20. She told police she heard a loud noise during the night before and later found the damage. The mailbox was valued at $50 and the case was referred to a detective. Blunt Object Likely Source Of Car Damage A Northport man called Village police on Feb. 19 to report criminal mischief. He told police his 2005 Audi was parked in front of his house during the night when he heard a loud bang. He checked his vehicle immediately, not finding any damage in the moonlight. But when he checked again in the afternoon, damage caused by a blunt object was found on the drivers side door. The case was referred to a detective. Get Your Sailboat Out Of Here! Northport police issued a New York City man several violations for his sailboat on Feb. 19, which he claims was the victim of theft. Police originally found the 1980 vessel abandoned at Scudder Park in November. The owner was located and notified in January, but failed to move the sailboat. He was charged with creating a hazard to navigation, littering and unauthorized use of village property. However, he told police back in January that an outboard engine was stolen from the vessel and it had to be towed to its current location. He was unable to provide photos of the motor or a serial number. I Thought It Was A Sign A Northport man was arrested by Village police for leaving the scene of an incident on Feb. 18. A Northport woman told police she saw his vehicle strike an East Northport womans parked vehicle on Main Street, causing damage. She said he did not stop and left in a westerly direction. Police interviewed both women before speaking with the defendant in front of his home. He told police he was downtown earlier and thought he struck a street sign in the parking lot. He eventually told police he understood it must have been another vehicle. Police issued him traffic summonses for leaving the scene of an incident and having an expired insurance in lieu of an arrest. He is due to appear in Village Court on March 29. Drunks Bloody Pant Leg No Concern A Northport woman was escorted into Village police headquarters by an anonymous pedestrian. When police spoke with the woman, she said she was asked to leave her sisters house due to being inebriated and needed a ride home. A taxi was called to drive her home. Police also noticed a large blood stain on her left knee pant leg, and asked repeatedly to let EMTs examine her leg.
