More Than 44 Reasons For This Bistro
By Leah, Alesa& Amanda/ foodie@longislandernews.com

Bistro 44 in Northport is a casual place with an upscale selection for either dinner or lunch this summer.

The first reason this spot is perfect right now is the peaceful outside patio, with tall umbrellas and ivy-covered wall providing a cool oasis on the warmest of summer days.

Another reason is the seafood. The La St. Simone Oysters on the Half Shell at market price are so fresh, you will wonder if they were harvested only moments before. All of the seafood at Bistro 44 appears to be just as fresh and appetizing.

The Bistro provides enough variety to please everyone. The simple dishes like the Bistro Salad ($7) with Mesclun Greens with Grape Tomatoes, Goat Cheese, Carrot Strings, and Sweet Balsamic Dressing paired with Chicken ($11) or Shrimp ($14) are clean, crisp and refreshing for lunch or as a starter at dinnertime.

The Fresh Buffalo Mozzarella with Tomato Pesto and Hawaiian Pink Salt ($8) is scrumptious. The pesto sauce, paired with the roasted grape tomatoes and a drizzle of sweet balsamic is a delicious topping to the fresh mozzarella.

Some of the entrees stir things up a little bit. One lunch entrée in particular, a sizzling BBQ Duck Confit Sandwich ($11), consisting of slow cooked duck smothered in BBQ sauce with sautéed onions and Asian slaw, is a twist on a french classic that makes it a fun, summer meal any time of the day.

The Sesame Seared Tuna with Soba Noodle Seaweed Salad, Ponzu Sauce and Honey Wasabi ($13) is an Asian-inspired meal that is such a crowd pleaser, it is on the lunch and dinner menu.

Come nightfall, the menu dresses itself up a bit and gives patrons a wide range of options including a vegetarian entrée of the day!

For starters, the Bistro 44 Ceviche ($13) is a combination of shrimp, bay scallops and seasonal fish with cilantro, red onion, lime and tomato sauce.

More delicious seafood items include the Corona Steamed Little Neck Clams ($10) with Bacon and Scallion and the Avocado and Crabmeat Appetizer ($11) with Spicy Mayo, Seaweed Salad and Crispy Wontons.

The Grilled Niman Ranch Pork Tenderloin ($23) with Tomato, Basil, Balsamic Compote and Mashed Potatoes; the Pan Roasted Filet Mignon ($30) with Bleu Cheese Butter and Grilled Onion and Mushroom Ragout; and the Papperdelle with Duck Confit ($19) peas, aged parmesan and tomatoes in a demi Bordeaux sauce are all delicious dinner options ranging in taste and price.

There is no particular theme or style at Bistro 44, which suits everyone just fine. Day or night the food is well prepared, the service is on the ball and you will leave happy to walk around and enjoy everything else the Village has to offer.
