La Villini Sure To Bring The Town Out

By Alessandra Malito/foodie@longislandernews.com

If you’re looking to bring your family, or even just a group of friends, to a restaurant that’s sure to have the portions and variety you crave, then East Northport’s La Villini is the place to be.

La Villini Family Restaurant, under chef-owner Frank Catania, offers its customers a menu of deep proportions. Almost every full-sized dish serves two or more people. Whether it’s a meat, a pasta, or even just an appetizer you’re looking for, anyone can find their favorite meal here.

We started off with Fried Zucchini ($11.95) and Fried Calamari La Villini ($23.95), a home recipe. While fried zucchini may seem the same wherever you are, La Villini’s is different, and the same goes for the fried calamari. The zucchini is breaded and each bite is a new crunch. Meanwhile, the fried calamari is soaked in a white wine butter pepper sauce, and every time a forkful gets into your mouth, flavors burst every which way.

We couldn’t get enough of the fried calamari, so we got the same sauce with shrimp, in a dish called Shrimp La Villini ($22.95). The entrée was delicious, and it was hard to put the utensils down just to take a breather. It seemed as though the sauce was infused into the battered shrimp, which of course gave it that extra kick. And it wasn’t too spicy, either.

We also went for a special, pumpkin ravioli in a sage brown sauce ($21.95). It has a sweet taste to it, but it is prepared well with spices that make for a perfect combination for the season.

Although our pants were busting at the seams, we made room for dessert, many of which are made on the premises. We had the mouth-watering tartufo ($6.95) paired with a cappuccino ($3.95), and the tiramisu ($7.95), which was perfectly layered. True to its portion promise, we had a lot of leftovers and brought them home to share with family and friends.

Servers said the Zuppa di Clams ($18.95), Stuffed Mushrooms ($11.95), Scungilli Marinara ($21.95) and Broiled or Pizzaiola-styled Steak ($54) are popular draws from the menu.

This family restaurant, of course, didn’t forget the children in the group. The kids’ menu serves children ages 10 and under for $6.95, and has choices of homemade pizza bread, pasta with butter or tomato sauce, and chicken fingers with French fries. They also offer free kids’ meals Sunday through Friday with every full order main course, for up to four children.

The atmosphere is also very relaxing and unwinding. Whether you bring your whole family or just your significant other, the rooms, trimmed with gold and red ribbons that dress the wood and glass doors, will surely put you at ease. Servers literally serve your meal from one main dish as soon as the plates touch the table.

Diners can join La Villini’s Loyalty Rewards Club and receive weekly text messages with exclusive offers, specials and last-minute incentives not available to the general public. The membership is free and if you sign up (done through text messaging), you receive 10 percent off of the day’s purchase.

So whether you’re too busy to cook yourself a meal at home or truly want to have a delicious adventure one night, La Villini is the place to be. And remember, today’s leftovers from La Villini can be tomorrow’s main course.
