Find Peace, Love And Cupcakes At Cupcake Gourmet
ByTricia, Michelle and Kevin / foodie@longislandernews.com

Tucked away behind the parking lot off of Clinton Avenue lies the dessert of your dreams. Cupcake Gourmet, which opened earlier this month, boasts a variety of gourmet-flavored treats that even Willy Wonka wouldn’t have been creative enough to concoct.

Upon entering the purple and lime hued bakery, the sugary smell will entice you towards the counter, where you can choose from a number of flavors that are sure to tickle your taste buds. Amy Brady, co-owner of cupcake gourmet alongside Chris, her husband, whips up each recipe personally, and all of the flavorful desserts are baked with Amy’s special ingredient – love.

Regular sized cupcakes are $2.50, and mini-cupcakes are $1.50. We recommend starting with a Chocolate Chip Cupcake, which is bursting with large, sweet chocolate chips and topped with a rich and creamy vanilla buttercream frosting. The Coconut Cupcake is another crowd pleaser. Not overly sweet, the crunchy coconut, thick vanilla cream cheese frosting and moist cake make such a wonderful combination that you’ll be tempted to lick the crumbs off of your plate.

The Malted Milk Ball Cupcake, with vanilla buttercream frosting mixed with crushed malted milk balls and topped with a sweet and crunchy malted milk ball, was a favorite of ours. Peanut butter lovers and haters alike will delight in sinking their teeth into a Peanut Butter Chocolate Fudge Cupcake, in which just the right amounts of creamy peanut butter and thick fudge combine to send you into a nutty bliss.
No dining experience will be complete without trying one of the cordial cupcakes. The Baileys Irish Cream Cupcake boasted just a hint of Baileys with a mild taste, while the Kahlua Cupcake, topped with an espresso bean, had such a bold flavor that we were thinking we were actually drinking Kahlua. Also available are amaretto, Frangelico and tiramisu flavored cupcakes, whose batters are mixed with the liquor and baked to perfection.

To wash down the cupcakes we recommend the large coffee with chocolate syrup ($2.15), blended smooth, which will have you melting at first sip. Though one of many exquisite flavored coffees, even Cupcake Gourmet’s rich house blend will have you drifting past Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks for your afternoon buzz.
The hot chocolate ($1.85) is another favorite. Whipped into a frothy state, it’s a perfect complement for any sugary treat.

The menu, which includes a number of specialty cupcakes, also boasts simple flavors like chocolate and vanilla that are richer, sweeter and tastier than any others you’ve ever tried. New flavors are in the works – including brownie, sugar free, espresso and margarita – and all suggestions for new flavors will be considered.

With advance notice, cupcakes will be made to order for any occasion, including specialty holiday cupcakes, wedding cakes made of cupcakes or baskets of cupcakes for corporate gift baskets. Cupcake Gourmet is also available for birthday parties, where children will be able to come and choose their own flavors and frosting and decorate their own cupcakes to their liking.

Rich flavors. Bold taste. For the perfect dessert for any occasion, stop in at Cupcake Gourmet and sample peace, love and cupcakes.
