Carl Marcellino, the Republican incumbent, is an experienced lawmaker seeking re-election to the Fifth Senate District seat. In his many years as a State Senator he has learned the ins and outs of the system and put that knowledge to work for the people of the district. A former school teacher and administrator, he brings valuable insight into one of the most important issues of this election – education. Along with his fellow Town of Huntington lawmakers, he has consistently fought to protect state aid to our schools, directly benefitting taxpayers. Marcellino understands that in a two-party system, compromise is often a part of winning.
Bruce Kennedy, a recent Republican who switched parties to run as a Democrat, is one of the high points of this election. The current, popular mayor of the Village of Sea Cliff, he brings to the race a fresh energy and willingness to challenge the status quo. As a business owner, he brings a can-do attitude and a penchant for problem-solving.
A third-party candidate, Gigi Bowman, is hyper-focused on health and environmental issues. She brings passion to the race, but little in the way of practical ideas that might make it through the legislative process.
In the end, we’ll bank on Carl Marcellino’s institutional knowledge and experience to best serve the people of the district.
We endorse Carl Marcellino.
